Would you rather...?  

'Would you rather' is a horror film based around a woman who attempts to save her brothers life, by going to a 'party' where a game will commence, and whoever wins, gets all the money. However, it isnt just a simple childhood game, of would you rather, as what you say, you have to do. The further into the game they go, the trickier the game gets, as morals and ethics come into play, as everyone discusses what to do. Although, what they dont know, is that this is not a team game, but a survival. In the end, Iris survives, and is that last person standing. She walks out with the money, and is completely shaken as to what had happened. The host of the game then tells her that they have found a sitable donor, for her brother, and all expenses have been paid for. She rushes home, and shakes her brother to awaken him, but she notices the pills next to him, and that he is dead.
To begin with, For the opeening credits, the screen is very dark, with little colour, but some blue/green patterns on the screen. It is blocked against some music, that is eerie. The use of the string instruiments, gives it a higher pitch to its sounds. The drum gives it a deep, slow rhythem which helps add creepiness, due to its ongoig beat, which becomes predictable. The high pitch naturally gives suspense to the pice, as it puts viewers on the edge of their seats before they have even began the film. This helps to scare the audience easier, as they are already creeped out by the audio.
 


As the start of the film begins, we see the back of a guy, and his sister, Iris talking. You can connote from his monotone voice, that the subject mater isn't a nice subject. Having his back to Iris, connotes that he does not want to talk about this subject, and his monotone voice shows how he is lacking of emotion. This could also just mean that this is their brother sister relationship, and he doesnt really have a good bonding/ connecting relationship with her.
His short answers, give us the idea moreover that he still does not want to talk, although his sister is trying. She then makes a suggestion that she can make him eggs which then he replies “I can make my own eggs” which is seen as sharp hand snappy towards her. This gives the implication that he maybe does not want her help at all, and thinks he can manage on his own, without her. During this, there are some slight pauses, and some shot reverse shots where he finally turns around, with a fixed facial expression on his face.

  Later forward, Iris meets the man in charge of the game. As we see, there is a lot more light on Iris, than on any other characters, which could show that the other characters know her position, and more about her, than she does about them. The lighting is split on Shepard, could connote that he is a two split type of p[erson, and that his job is a bit more dark than thought. However, the doctor on the left, is in full pitch black which could show that this character is completely hiding, or keeping Iris in the dark, alike his own character.
