Weapons

                 Genre Conventional weapons

Today we started to look at different Genre's, looking at things like action or adventure. We looked at the conventions of these genre's and all the props that would be needed. I asked people in my class to rate wether they thought a gun is the most important weapon in an action film. If not, i then asked why.
One person told me that they believed that a gun was extremely important, because it makes loud noises for the audience pleasures, but another person said that as long as there is lots of fighting, and louder than life sounds, that they don't mind what weapons we use.

When i asked them to what they preferred if they could choose, some responded with a gun or knife, but one person told us to use unconventional weapons, to add a sense of comedy, because nobody would be expecting the use of everyday items in a battle.

I found this idea interesting, as it would be hard to get a realistic weapon without making it look tacky and fake. This was due to our money issues, and that we were not being funded by other companies, therefore limiting our cash. This then forced us to think more literally about how we could use weapons in our film.  I then started to google many unconventional weapons, including kettles, and even a hairbrush. This at first, seemed pretty easy, but i was unsure as to how this would look in a film, and i was scared that if we were not careful we would end up making a film that was not action, and might look completely silly. I think it would be better to film inside somebodies house as there will be good lighting, and if the curtains are shut, the lighting will stay the same throughout. I found http://nomorequo.blogspot.co.uk/2007/08/top-5-jason-bourne-improvised-weapons.html and started reading through this blog, which gave me some ideas on what weird weapons could be used in fights.I then went on to a fighting blog, and read through an article on how to use weapons around you for self defence. Here....
